iTero® Digital Impressions

At Sunrise Dental Studio, Dr. Afshin Nateghi and our team use the iTero® digital impression system to capture detailed images of your teeth and gums. This technology replaces the traditional putty-based impression trays that many patients find uncomfortable. Instead of biting down into a tray filled with impression material, the iTero scanner uses a compact handheld wand to capture thousands of images and compile them into a precise 3D digital model of your mouth.

Traditional dental impressions require patients to hold a tray of soft material in their mouth for several minutes while it sets. This process can trigger gagging, discomfort, and sometimes requires retakes if the impression does not capture enough detail. The iTero digital scanner eliminates these concerns by quickly recording the contours of your teeth, gums, and bite without the need for any impression material. The resulting digital model can be viewed immediately on a screen, allowing Dr. Nateghi to review the data with you during your appointment.

Digital impressions captured with the iTero scanner are commonly used when planning treatment with Invisalign clear aligners, fabricating dental crowns, designing dental bridges, and creating other custom restorations. Because the scanner produces a highly accurate digital file, the restorations and appliances made from these impressions are designed to fit more precisely. The digital file is sent electronically to the dental laboratory, which also reduces turnaround time compared to shipping physical impression molds.
